A Day in the Life of Net-a-Porter's Buying Manager at Fashion Week
You'd have to assume there's quite a bit of pressure on being a buyer for one of the world's most successful online fashion retailers. For those who are yet to have the Net-a-Porter experience, I urge you to make today, the day. From the butterfly-inducing log on, to product selection, check-out and delivery, the journey is refined, premium and addictive. When that black box with the perfect bow arrives, that'll be the end of your savings goals.
I spent some time with Net-a-Porter's buying manager, Sasha Sarokin, during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia recently, and I left our time together feeling the same way I do after making a Net-a-Porter purchase — like I'd had a fashion education. She travels to our fair (far away) land every year to meet with designers Net-a-Porter is already working with, as well as unearth new talent and ingratiate herself into the Australian way of life. The latter helps her understand our sense of style — both its sensibility and practicality — and these lessons shape her buying choices. Bit of an art, actually.
She's gorgeous, highly intelligent and I-never-try stylish. Safe to say she's my new girl crush. Read on to see a day in her life during Fashion Week, and learn about her role as a buyer.
