And That's How You Open Australian Fashion Week . . .
Well Ellery certainly put the grand in grand opening this evening. At first glance, we thought we'd accidentally wandered onto the set of Black Swan. Brilliant ballerinas pirouetted their way down the runway setting a dramatic tone for the show. The Aussie designer kicked off Australian Fashion Week in, uh, spectacular fashion! It was Ellery at its finest with exaggerated flares, luxe materials and exquisite tailoring wowing the fashion elite.
The show also featured the runway return of Gemma Ward. The model walked first in a jet black dress, which was followed closely by clean '70s inspired shapes. Kym reminded us why she is the queen of layered levels by way of serious flares topped with criss-crossed draped blouses and boxy crops. Textures were rich — monochrome silk wool dominated with injections of rusty brocade materials.
And then, just when we thought our shopping lists couldn't get any longer, along came the coats. Oversized cocoon shapes marched down the runway as we tried to keep our hands to ourselves.
It's safe to say that Kym Ellery has set a style standard for this installment of Australian Fashion Week. Read on for every runway look from tonight's show.
