Gucci Milan Fashion Week Collection

2010 Milan Fashion Week: Gucci

Ah, Gucci. You can always count on this perennially Italian label to draw an impressive front row crowd and an even more impressive Autumn/Winter collection. Designer Frida Giannini doesn't muck around. Instead of playing with prints, experimenting with shapes or adding tricky details, she keeps things straight to the point. And it works. This season, Giannini has created an utterly wearable collection filled with statement separates and tailoring you'll come to rely on again and again.

We've seen Giannini's take on the man-style pant before, namely in their Spring '09 range, but this time round styles are sleeker, more low-slung, and in a range of earthy neutrals. Shaggy fur jackets, cocoon coats and a statement leopard-print coat (which I can already see Rachel Zoe running for) were styled over streamlined sheath dresses, while thigh-high suede boots were given a classy makeover when teamed with opaque tights in both black and Winter white. The accessories — always a standout — were kept more discreet than usual with only a few sleek gold cuffs, statement eyewear and minimal monogramming featuring on bags and belts. Top models Anja Rubik, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Karlie Kloss looked as sophisticated as ever in this mature collection.
