We watched on in envy as the style set embraced velvet all Winter long in the US and Europe. And while we dipped our toes in as best we could — perhaps with a velvet choker or strappy heels — this past Summer was too hot to consider anything heavier, right?

With the arrival of Autumn though, we are finally ready to buy and try all the velvet pieces we've been pinning. The best part? There is now a wealth of street style pictures floating around for inspiration, and almost all of our favourite local and international labels have played with the material here and there.

My biggest tip when it comes to shopping the fabric trend is to look to retailers like ASOS, Topshop and Sportsgirl as a first port of call.
