Why Does Sabo Skirt Have One Million Followers?
From humble fashion bloggers to global ecommerce entrepreneurs, Thessy Kouzoukas and Yiota Karalouka (pictured above) are a social media success story. The pair are the founders of ecommerce store and high-street brand, Sabo Skirt.
Amazingly, just a couple of years ago the pair were marketing and property development students, storing their stock in an unused bathroom and study. In the past twelve months alone, the duo added a range of activewear to their portfolio, increased their team to 12 staff members, moved offices, signed a deal with retail giant David Jones, and hit the one-million-followers mark on Instagram. Busy, right? To give you context, the two best friends from Queensland have more followers than Karlie Kloss, Net-a-Porter, or Jessica Hart.
At a glance, the brand's formula looks pretty straight-forward — book seriously beautiful models, dress them in cool clothes, shoot in salty beachside locations, and share the snaps with the world. But the founders say timing also played a part in their social success.
"We started our Instagram profile @saboskirt before the app itself had really taken off," Yiota said, adding, "The high quality and unique content of our posts is what allowed us to grow our Instagram profile to where it is today."
It's an ability to be fast and reactive to trends and stock on-trend styles for a fraction of the cost you'll find them elsewhere that makes Sabo Skirt's styles fly off the shelves. In fact, the entire process from concept and design to a product appearing online can be as little as a month. Today, the store adds over 50 new styles to its virtual shelves each month, with new arrivals appearing weekly.
We caught up with Thessy and Yiota to learn more about their amazing story — keep reading to get familiar with the faces behind the fashion brand.
