J. Mendel's Dresses are Destined For the Oscars
Gilles Mendel sent out an offering that stayed true to his family's roots in the fur business but cast an eye toward the future of the brand as a purveyor of the kinds of gorgeous clothing women want to wear. And if this show is any indication, Mendel is putting his money on colour. A red, black, and cream patchwork fur coat opened the collection, and it was followed in quick succession by a lace dress in deep blue, an emerald green coat, and two jewel-tone dresses (one pale green, another light blue) that looked primed for the dance floor. And because every designer worth his salt is looking forward to next month's Academy Awards, there were also some truly red carpet-worthy gowns here, including an exquisite purple dress with two triangular cut-outs on its bodice.
