Buckle-Up For the Runway Ride That Was By Johnny
Normally the most dangerous things at Fashion Week are the killer outfits, but at the brilliant By Johnny show, guests were greeted with some scarily low hanging pipes. As Australia's style set found their seats the heavy metal pieces became a talking point. Was this some kind of structural flaw? Were we all in grave danger? How hard would it be to steal the pipes and sell them on the black market?
Eventually it was revealed that the pipes created a Tetris-like situation for the models, who were forced to move in and out of the pipeline with startling precision.
Staying true to his architectural aesthetic, the collection had a modern edge and referenced the elements of everyday life. Sharp cut-outs featured throughout, providing a powerful punch and were softened slightly with feminine skirting. More flashes of skin followed with dresses held together by seat belt straps, reinforcing the contemporary environment. Buckle up baby, fashion just hit the fast lane.
Black and white made up most of the colour palette, with dashes of siren orange, azure blue, sunshine yellow and fuchsia pink. A digitally printed circle was spotted onto most pieces in varying sizes, perfectly pulling the collection together.
