Love the Girl: Susien Chong Talks to Us About Lover's A/W '13 Collection
Once again, Lover has taken inspiration for their latest collection from the world of film. The starting point for the Autumn/Winter '13 line, entitled 'Nocturnal', was the 1983 romantic horror film The Horror — evidenced by the label's signature femininity being underscored by a dark and moody mix of colours, leather and low-slung silhouettes. We could bang on about it some more, but thought it better to get it straight from the horse's mouth — and so asked one half of Lover's design duo, and all-round inspiring-type, Susien Chong to finish the following sentences.
My favourite piece in the collection is... The Laser Leather Catherine dress. Because... The duality of tough and soft, past and future is perfectly summed up in this piece. From design to execution.
The three words that sum-up this collection are... Modernity, femininity, clean.
The girl who wears this collection is... Everyone; the full spectrum from wall-flower to eccentric. There's a bit of Lover in us all!
The piece which I laboured over most in the collection was the... The Pyramid Lace Midi Dress. Because... It was a patchwork of striped lace placed on different grains, that snake around the body. We wanted to incorporate bust and waist fitting into strategically placed panel lines as opposed to using traditional dart placement.
The change of seasons, to us, is... Exciting, we always plan trips away to the northern hemisphere so we associate it with travel and new adventures.
