Chadwick Models has been representing Australia's most beautiful for over 30 years (Elle Macpherson, Jessica Hart, Rachel Hunter, and Megan Gale have all been on the books), so it was a no brainer to ask owner Martin Walsh for his professional advice on how to get into the modelling game as part of our Fashion Insider series. Want to work with the beautiful people? Then read and learn...
I got my foot in the door by... Accepting a couple of modelling jobs as a bit of a joke when I was passing through Adelaide about 33 years ago. I then started a location van business with a friend back in Sydney in 1988 while I was still modelling in New York, and returned to take on the role of Peter Chadwick’s business partner in 1995.
The best piece of professional advice given to me was... Make as much money as you can, and pay your taxes. And, as a model, remember those photographers and fashion assistants quickly take over, and they have long memories!!
My industry mentor/inspiration is... Peter Chadwick, because he recognised my potential on both sides of the industry... He taught me a lot of things, but being decisive and unwaveringly ethical was probably the most valuable.

To succeed in this industry you have to... Possess the physical requirements the career demands. Treat it like a business, keep it in perspective and remember as a model you’re essentially a salesperson. If you make the product look great, the more you will sell, and the more you will work.
I love my job because... It’s challenging, demanding and ever changing. Here at Chadwick we love our models and develop a close bond with them...but at the end of the day the relationship between model and agent is a partnership and it is essential both parties work together with trust and respect for each other.
