2010 was a military affair! Kick started by the uber glam S/S '10 interpretation of the army trend by Christophe Decarnin at Balmain, military remained on our radar all year. By the time the A/W shows hit every man and his dog were on the M*A*S*H train, with Marc Jacobs, Dries Van Noten and Rebecca Taylor sending out models in army greens. Balmain tricked up the trend again with some ornate versions of the ever popular military jacket, and Burberry's tough buckled boots and hardwear laden belts only added fuel to the fashion craze. Even Prada got in on the act with an army camouflage print carry all.
Chain store giants were quick to copy the army-disposals-store-style with Zara, H&M and local label Sportsgirl doing their own interpretations. Army jackets were suddenly a wardrobe necessity to toughen up a pretty frock, and along with J Brand's ubiquitous Houlihans (spotted on everyone from Rachel Bilson to Jessica Alba) it was a khaki invasion of our wardrobes. Stand to attention ladies, coz it's time to salute military as our 2010 Trend Of The Year!
