Don't Be Afraid of the Dark at Monique Lhuillier
With a sculptural canopy (nearly resembling cobwebs) greeting attendees at the end of Monique Lhuillier's Fall 2014 runway, the tone was set for "a mysteriously provocative collection." The designer best known for pretty red carpet gowns and feminine lace, showed her dark side with an array of smoldering dresses in black, navy, or both in the case of a showstopping asymmetrical number.
The abstract skeletal embroidery, noir, fringe, and leather mingled with fuchsia florals, blush lace, and brushed gold so as not to let you forget whose collection was walking. The juxtaposition may have been about "modern architectural details," but as always, at her heart, Lhuillier is a master of "Old World Parisian couture."
