Balmain is one of the most talked about shows of Paris Fashion Week, and this season a lot of the talk surrounded designer Christophe Decarnin who was absent. A Balmain spokesperson said, "He's tired after working on the collection. He's not here. He's resting." Emmanuelle Alt did not style the show (editing Vogue Paris must be time consuming!) for the 2011 A/W show, as Melanie Ward took on the role. This season the collection was suitably rock'n'roll, with metallics and thigh skimming dresses. All of the looks were teamed with chunky lace-up heels and there were occasional flesh revealing slits. Tailoring was sharp with square shoulders and there were plenty of mega-wattage sequinned pieces, all worn with the Balmain brand of cool insouciance. Decarnin didn't break the mould with this line up, but we're expecting his high-shine party pieces will be an instant hit with the celeb crowd.
