2013 MBFWA: Flannel
Flannel's Spring/Summer '13-'14 presentation was like a breath of fresh air amongst the constant noise made by the vibrant pattern-blocking and futuristic cut-outs that we've seen on so many MBFWA runways thus far. Loose, effortless shapes in natural fabrications with folkish embroidery took us back to a time before the dawn of digital prints, laser-cut edges or high-vis colour palettes. Even from the back, Julia Nobis' garland-edged tunic and maxi skirt combo gave us goosebumps. Simple shapes were layered to romantic effect, made pretty by transluscent voile cotton, lace and broidery angleise. Gypsetters rejoice! Because Flannel's luxuriously simple vision heralds the rebirth of boho — albeit in with a pared-back, almost Armish, aesthetic.
