Dior Darlings: From Russia With Love
Forget Paris. See ya later NYC. Move over London. Why? Because, along with China, Moscow is on the rise in the fashionable city stakes. Thanks to the likes of Russian blogger/fashion editor Miroslava Duma, street style star Elena Perminova, fashion designers Vika Gazinskaya and Ulyana Sergeenko and supermodel-cum-charity queen Natalia Vodianova, Moscow is now on the fashion map in a big way — a fact not ignored by the French house of Christian Dior. Raf Simons presented his Autumn/Winter 2013 collection to a discerning crowd yesterday in Red Square, complete with fun-house mirror which reflected a warped view of the candy-coloured St Basil's Cathedral.
Scenic props aside, it was what the (Dior-clad) front row pack wore that really got our attention. Miroslava Duma opted for a chic Resort '14 frock, Natalia Vodianova donned a Dior musk pink suit and Lady Dior bag and socialite Ravshana Kurkova looked ladylike in a full-skirted gown from the label's Pre-Fall '13 line. It's time to get familiar with these Slavic style queens — it's a Russian invasion of the best kind.
