This Super-Skinny Topshop Mannequin Will Change the Way You Think About Body Image
Topshop customer Laura Kate Berry was shopping for her favourite jeans at the retailer's Bristol Cribbs Causeway location in England, when she stumbled upon this mannequin. Wearing her go-to denim — the Jamie style, which features a high-waist and a skinny leg — the thin white figure alarmed her.
Laura left the store and posted the above photo on Topshop's Facebook page, along with a lengthy message about the "ridiculously shaped" mannequin and the ways in which it might affect a young customer's body image, especially if she aspires to the "cult image [Topshop] offers." Laura confirms that none of the mannequins in the store showed clothes over a size six, or US size two, and asked Topshop to take responsibility for that choice.
Topshop left a comment on the post, explaining its decision to display the mannequin and guaranteeing that it would no longer place orders on that specific model. Read on to compare the brand's mannequin with the real woman who models the Jamie jeans online, then let us know if you think Topshop made the right move by removing the figure from stores.
