Temperley's Going to Ruffle Your Feathers With These Painted Dreams
After the cacophony of colour and print that we saw for Spring/Summer, Alice Temperley toned things down for Autumn 2017. But don't fool yourself into thinking that meant a pared-back, simple show. After all, no Temperley look is complete without embroidery, texture, ruffles, or intarsia. The show was called "Painted Dreams", and though these pieces came in a muted palette of cornflower blue, black, indigo, white, violet, blush, and rose gold, they were no less intricate.
Temperley was supposedly looking into the subconscious, weaving Dali-esque details into those famous prints and embroidery. Little red lips and crowns added a touch of attitude to the embroidered cotton dresses Temperley has become synonymous with in recent seasons, while rich brocade, devoré, and quilted satin came out at night. Blouses were high-necked, ruffled and fabulously fussy, or laced up with floral embroidery on the chest and shoulders. Dresses had blouson sleeves or little ruffles, flowing from a natural waist, or clinging sexily to the hips.
Celebrity fans will snap up the rose gold sequins; a halter gown with textured-stripe skirt, and a wide-leg jumpsuit that are crying out for a red carpet moment. Maybe Temperley fan the Duchess of Cambridge, who's no stranger to sparkle, will give one a go?
