Tome Raises the Style Stakes at MBWFA
One of Australia's most successful designer brand exports, Tome, returned to Sydney this morning for Australian Fashion Week. To say they kicked day two off with a stylish start would be an understatement. The New York based label — brainchild of design duo Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin — is known for offering women ready-to-wear pieces that exude femininity and timelessness, and their Spring Summer collection certainly did not fall short of that.
Femininity was reinvented through pieces usually considered more masculine — to quote Shania Twain, "Man, I feel like a woman!" Stiff white shirts where smocked at the front or back, delicate lace skirted hemlines and light reflecting beads adorned dresses that sat over pants.
Monochromatic matches owned the runway while blocks of cornflower blue, pastel pink and camel shades offered gentle sweeps of colour. Then, just when we thought it was a printless collection, the plaid of all plaids electrified the runway in the form of a long vest. Ladies, it was like Fashion Week went to heaven.
