As we learn of the untimely death of one of fashion's greatest stars, the show must go on with New York fashion week well under way. Australia's own Toni Maticevski presented his collection yesterday with touches of metallic, black, and embellishment featuring throughout. If you're a fan of Toni's whimsical, light-as-air aesthetic, this collection may shock you — but in a good way.
This season, his feminine silhouettes have been revamped with lashes of liquid sequins, appliquéd metallic florals and textured layering. Sunray pleats made an appearance on romantic gowns and structured satin, while a cornflower blue and white polka dot dress reminds us of his impressive handiwork. I'm a big fan of the neutrals and touches of gold, but I also have to draw attention to the incredibly ornate black dresses, bra-tops and pants which sashayed down the runway. So intricate, so beautiful. Well done, Toni, we love your work.
