With a seal of approval by Valentino Garavani himself, the Spring '11 offering by designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli for Valentino hit all the right notes on the runway today. According to the namesake designer the collection played "homage" to his past work but "with a new interpretation," resulting in a quintessentially classic eveningwear range updated by modern silhouettes, textures and an introduction of more casual basics. Embellishments in the way of leather embossed flowers, intricate lacework and sweet, feminine ruffles added a playful touch to the '70s style tunics and floaty maxi dresess; while dressy denim and stud-trimmed accessories toughened up the unashamedly girly pieces.
