Camel was the colour du jour (well, du année actually) for 2010, without a doubt! Darker than nude and more beigey than blush, camel was the new neutral that made its way into everyone's wardrobes. It all started with the Chloé Winter campaign, and such was the lust-inducing power of Raquel Zimmermann in that camel-on-camel ensemble that celebs were soon to follow. The Hills girls Kristin and LC tried out the chicer-than-usual-colour, as did Fab faves Kate Bosworth and Olivia Palermo — who got really inspired and did the head to toe Chloé look (from Mango, mind you). Chain store giants were quick to adopt the hue too, with Zara and J.Crew offering affordable camel classics without the Chloé price tag.
I've lost count of the number of camel skirts, coats, shorts and jackets I've bought this year, let alone shoes and bags! Are we camel weary yet? Nuh-uh! This ever-classic hue makes anything look 'expensive,' as Alex Perry would say. Which is why we think it's going to stick around a little longer. So...without further ado, the 2010 Colour That We Couldn't Escape is....camel!
