Theory: My Maternity Style Is Better Than My Regular Style
I've spent the better part of the last two years building my ideal wardrobe. When shopping, I try to follow some self-set rules:
- Only buy high-quality basics in black, white, navy and grey
- Luxury items must be staples I'll wear season after season
- Trend pieces shouldn't cost too much (I break this one all too often)
- Shoes must be comfortable (again, not the best as sticking to this)
While it's still very much a work in progress, I'm happy so far. My wardrobe contains pieces that can easily be mixed and matched — I know how an outfit will look before I've even tried it on. Getting dressed in the morning involves minimal effort, I simply grab one of the high-rotation pieces hanging at the front of my closet and go. In a nutshell, my "rules" exist because I'm a very lazy dresser.
Alas, falling pregnant changed everything — my favourite mum jeans/white tee combinations are not so easy when the fly won't zip up! Initially, I feared an imminent wardrobe crisis, but I've surprised myself — I dress better as pregnant person. And I believe you can, too. Read on to learn why!
