Why I'm Only Wearing Ugly Shoes This Season (and Next!)

Once upon a time there was a girl who desperately wanted to wear high heels. At three she would creep into her parents' room, slip into her mum's high heels and clonk around the house. At five, she owned a pair of plastic block heels with (completely non-ironic) feather tassels. At eight, in the '90s, she discovered Spice Girls and with it, a pair of platform wedges.
Clearly, this girl is me. Now in my early 20s, I can safely say I've ditched the plastic block heels and "Wannabe"-inspired sneakers, and my shoe repertoire has grown season by season to include every leg-lengthening, height-elevating footwear trend to hit a runway since the '90s. Pumps! Sandals! Mules! You name it, I've owned, worn it, and likely fallen over it. Because that's the completely unglamorous thing about me and my heels. Despite years of practice, I still struggle to stay upright in a pair. And take my word for it — there's no worse look than being the girl stumbling out of a fashion show.
