It had rained in Tasmania for weeks, and a production team was due to shoot a campaign video and stills for the annual Georg Jensen and Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) campaign, launching the 2024 OCRF pendant necklace. The chance of a clear day was looking dicey, but the morning of the shoot, the rain stopped.
OCRF and campaign ambassador Suki Paddington, her husband Kevin Cho and their toddler Kai were ready to be shot by the production team, Gritty Productions, when they noticed something.
“Not one but two rainbows had appeared in the sky and it felt like we were standing at the end of them,” says Eleanor Pendleton, founder of Gritty Productions. “It felt like a sign from Margy, Suki’s mum.”
Margy Paddington was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2019 and tragically passed away from it in 2023. She was diagnosed in 2019. Suki says Margy had wanted her family to raise awareness about ovarian cancer which Margy felt didn’t get nearly as much research funding or have as much awareness as many other cancers.
“We miss Mum every single day so keeping her memory and legacy alive in such a moving national campaign is a true honour,” says Suki. “This pendant is helping fund this crucial work. Research that will help us better detect, treat and prevent ovarian cancer so one day, other families don’t have to go through what we have been through.”
Ovarian cancer is the most lethal among gynecological cancers and, sadly, five new cases of it are diagnosed daily in Australia. Its five-year survival rate has barely changed in decades and, unfortunately, most patients are diagnosed in the advanced stages. There is no accessible, non-invasive early detection test available.
To date, OCRF and Georg Jensen’s partnership has raised over $500,000 for ovarian cancer research, sparking important conversations and shining a spotlight on the dire reality of this insidious disease.
