The Duchess of Cambridge's Stunning BAFTAs Look Is a Timely Lesson in Sustainable Fashion

As one of the most glamorous nights of the year, the BAFTAs never disappoint when it comes to red carpet fashion. Of course, this year’s looks were no exception, but we would be lying if we said that the Duchess of Cambridge didn’t steal all our attention the second we caught a glimpse of her. Accompanied by Prince William – who looked as dapper as ever in a classic black tux and velvet shoes – Kate stunned in a white, gold-embroidered gown by one of her favorite fashion house, Alexander McQueen. And if you think that her ensemble looks familiar, you’re right.

Eagle-eyed royal fans will recognize the duchess’s gown, which she first wore in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, while on a tour of the Asia Pacific region back in 2012. Of course, Kate is known for repeating her favorite outfits, which must have made this evening’s outfit choice that much more simple. Ahead of the event, the BAFTAs invited all attending guests to be a little more mindful by rewearing old dresses, with the hopes to make the 2020 ceremony carbon neutral – and Kate clearly got the memo. Featuring short sleeves and a sweetheart neckline, her floor-length dress was accessorized with stunning Van Cleef & Arpels jewels and a sparkly gold clutch.

While seeing the Cambridges on the red carpet is quite a rare sight, William and Kate have often made an exception for the BAFTAs, turning the evening into a fancy annual date night. Since the couple first started attending the BAFTA Awards, the duchess has worn her fair share of beautifully intricate, award-worthy gowns, from the most gorgeous anti-princess dress in 2017 to the angelic Alexander McQueen gown she wore last year – but there is no denying that this year’s edition, with its timely lesson in sustainable fashion, is even more special.
