The Antler Queen’s reign of terror has yielded some good news: “Yellowjackets” received seven nominations for the 2022 Emmy Awards, which were announced on July 12. The Showtime series – which follows the aftermath of a plane crash carrying a high school girls’ soccer team as it unfolds and into the future – was nominated for outstanding drama series and outstanding casting in a drama series and earning acting nominations for Melanie Lynskey and Christina Ricci.

The new series premiered just last year and features a cast that includes acting veterans like Lynskey, Ricci, and Juliette Lewis. The three portray the older versions of plane-crash survivors Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), Misty (Samantha Hanratty), and Natalie (Sophie Thatcher), respectively.

Fans of the show are clamouring for any details they can get about season two, which the series’ showrunners, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, teased in a recent interview with Variety. “We are definitely re-visiting the winter storyline,” Lyle said at the time. “We’ve been calling Season 2, ‘The Winter of Their Discontent,'” a reference to Shakespeare’s “Richard III.”

Nickerson said the writers’ room is currently working on scripts. And though Showtime Networks Copresident of Entertainment Gary Levine previously told Vulture that season two would begin airing before 2022 was over, Lyle said it wouldn’t begin filming until “late summer” – so only time will tell!

The 74th annual primetime Emmy Awards will air on NBC on Sept. 12.
