PS: What does an average day look like for you?
KJ: No day is the same! Typically my day starts at 9 a.m. with a quick creative team department meeting to discuss any editorial stories that may be getting shot that week for our homepage. Shopbop has new editorial content on the homepage every day of the year so there’s a lot of planning involved. We want to make sure we’re talking about the most current product and trends, and helping the Shopbop girl know what items she needs to have and how she should be wearing them!
The rest of my morning consists of market appointments with our buying teams. On any given day I meet with 5 to ten brands across all categories: apparel, shoes, handbags, jewellery, even phone cases! I’m constantly searching for up-and-coming brands and visiting designers’ showrooms to weigh in on trends for our customers and see what they have to offer for the next season.
After market, I’ll head back to the office to meet with our PR team to plan the next batch of editorial features and discuss any upcoming collaborations or events.
PS: What is the biggest perk that comes with your job?
KJ: For me, it’s all about the thrill of the hunt. There’s nothing better than travelling to different markets around the world to meet new people and see the best new product and brands before they hit other stores.
PS: What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
KJ: Finding the time to get everything done! We have a huge amount of brands on our site and launch new product constantly. At times, it can be overwhelming to see everything we buy and make sure we’re presenting it to the customer in the freshest way possible.
