Gemma Chan Debuts Dramatic Blunt Bangs on the Cannes Red Carpet

Gemma Chan is switching up her signature look. On May 17, Chan debuted a wispy set of blunt bangs on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet in France. A major departure from her face-framing curtain bangs and sleek side bangs of the past, Chan’s new bangs may be her shortest ever.

While attending the unveiling of Hirokazu Kore-Eda’s “Monster,” Chan walked the red carpet in a white Louis Vuitton cape dress adorned with shimmering paillettes and a messy updo. Chan’s fringe, cropped just below her eyebrows, framed her face beautifully. Turning to the side, she revealed a few asymmetrical face-framing pieces that curved along her cheekbone and against her ear. The rest of her hair was tied back into a loose bun at the crown of her head, beautifully elongating her neck as she floated down the red carpet. Chan’s beauty team completed the look with a shimmery pink lip, rosy blush, and bold mascara.

Chan is no stranger to experimenting with elegant haircuts and sophisticated styles. From glossy waves to expertly styled buns, her hair catalogue is nothing short of stunning. In January 2022, the actor even shared a glimpse at a shaggy set of layered bangs interspersed with subtle highlights on Instagram. Her latest chop, while unexpected, has us tempted to follow suit.
