POPSUGAR Australia: When did ToniMay first launch?
Laura Byrne: ToniMay never had an official launch so I never know how to answer this question . . . I started off doing the Bondi Markets in 2012, so I guess some time around then. Since then it has been a real natural evolution.
PS: How did you get into jewellery design? Was it something you always wanted to do?
Laura: My mum was a jeweller when she was younger and I remember when I was growing up I would always go digging around in her jewellery box looking at her creations. I was just mesmerised by them. I have been making jewellery for as long as I can remember, but it wasn't until I was in my 20s that I decided to turn my hobby into a career.
PS: What has been the hardest thing about owning and running your own business?
Laura: I think the biggest challenge I have faced from running my own business is transitioning from working in the business to working on the business. It took me a really long time to trust that I didn't have to do everything myself, and that if I surrounded myself with an amazing team we could grow and expand in a way that wasn't possible when I was consumed by the daily nitty-gritty of running a business. It has been a constant learning curve to say the least, but I love that running my own business means I have to be adaptable and roll with new challenges.
