A Kardashian Kollection of Past Met Gala Looks, In Case They’re *Actually* Not Invited This Year

It took the Kardashians years to be invited to the Met Gala, but in the last couple of years, their attendance has not only been guaranteed, but hotly anticipated.
Speculation about Kim Kardashian’s outfit in the lead up to and aftermath of last year’s Met Gala made more headlines than any other celebrity to walk those iconic steps.
However! In truly shocking and slightly unbelievable news, sources apparently told Page Six that one of the most famous families in the world might not be invited to the 2023 Met Gala, due to Anna Wintour “cracking down” on who makes the cut.
But surely, even if she — for some unknown reason — didn’t want them there, the Kardashians bring too much hype to the event that they can’t be uninvited. Surely, right!?
We can’t argue that the Kardashian-Jenners have a stronghold on the pop culture scene and have an unparalleled knack for causing a stir — especially when it involves fashion. Not to mention that Kendall Jenner has been on how many Vogue covers? It might be true that Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is cutting down the Met Gala guest list in 2023, but we find it tough to believe she’d exclude the highly influential fam.
It’s worth noting that another source has come out and disputed these claims to Page Six saying they’re “not true”.
So, we don’t know what to think. Maybe this is another will-they won’t-they moment in the lead up the Met Gala, reminiscent of last year’s Marilyn Monroe dress debate. Because look at us, here again, debating all things Met Gala and Kardashians. Damn, they’re clever.

2013 was Kim’s first Met Gala. She attended with her fiance-at-time, Kanye West, and pregnant with their first child, North.

2015’s Met Gala theme was “China: Through The Looking Glass”, and Kris Jenner was invited, alongside Kim and Kanye.

Kim was the only Kardashian in attendance at the 2017 Met Gala. The theme was “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between”, and we can see a clear shift in her style here. Wearing this off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood dress, she looks more edgy, rocking a minimalist look, with freshly cut blunt bob and slightly more statement brows and lips.

Omg, it’s giving Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s wedding aesthetic. The foreshadowing! Kim wore this STUNNING gold Versace dress with cross detailing to the 2018 Met Gala. The theme was “Heavenly Bodies” and she definitely looked like heaven. This was her best look at the Met Gala so far, for sure (in my humble opinion).

2019 was a SLAY year for the Kardashian-Jenners at the Met Gala.
Thierry Mugler came out of retirement to design Kim’s wet-look dress, that was reminiscent of her May Vogue cover. This has since become an iconic look of hers.
Kendall and Kylie Jenner attended the Met Gala for the first time in 2019, and they really made an entrance. They wore purple and orange showgirl inspired looks from Versace.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Met Gala was cancelled. So, we move to 2021.
There was lots of hype surrounding Kim’s arrival at the 2021 Met Gala. But, when she arrived in this massive black “t-shirt” from Balenciaga, we were all a little underwhelmed. And claustrophobic, for her.
There were many people speculating whether it was, in fact, Kim Kardashian — since her face was covered. This marked Kim’s creative partnership with Balenciaga, which lasted for a good two years after this moment.

Kendall Jenner took the cake for most beautiful gown at the 2021 Met Gala, wearing this Givenchy Haute Couture moment as an homage to an iconic Audrey Hepburn gown.

So much can change in a year! Kim attended the 2022 Met Gala with then-boyfriend Pete Davidson. She wore Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress that she sung “Happy Birthday Mr. President” to JFK in, and the internet lost it’s mind.
