How often do you exercise in a week?

I've recently increased my exercise frequency to one to two times a day, for five days. Depending on the week it might be four times a week.

What kind of exercise do you do?

Conditioning and isolation exercises during the day, with a traditional body split during the night (hypertrophy-focused).

Personal trainer, got one?

My partner and I train together, and he is a personal trainer. Every so often, he gives me tips when I need to pull in my form and mobility, as well as to help me maximise my exercises. Before him, I never really sought a personal trainer because I was way too shy to talk to one.

How much do you spend on exercise in a year?

Gym membership: $880

Accessories: $100-$150

Supplements: $1252.05. I only choose to include supplements to my diet because I've been training for a few years now and can actively see the benefits of these when I work out.

Activewear: $500-$700. I buy activewear every 2-3 months a year.

Name: Mel Ho, 27

Fitness level: Intermediate.

How often do you exercise in a week?

I exercise four days a week.

What kind of exercise do you do?

Reformer Pilates, PT Training that involves a lot of weight and strength training.

Personal trainer, got one?

Yes! I had planned to stop after a few sessions but I ended up becoming good friends with my trainer it doesn't feel like work because I like catching up with her. Having a PT is my kick up the butt to get fit and I actually do feel so much better after each session. If I don't do it, I notice a slump in energy and mood for the week.

How much do you spend on exercise in a year?

Pilates reformer: $3,600

Personal trainer: $8,500

Sports massage: $1,200. I'd go once a month maybe twice if I am really sore.

Activewear: $1,500-$2,000. Ekk, I buy every two months but that's because I can get lazy and would rather buy clothes than do the laundry.

Total: $15,300 (approx.) — OMG I just realised how much I spend!!!

Name: Belle Lehmann, 27

Personal trainer, got one?

No PT for me. I exercise with friends and group classes. I would like a PT to keep me a bit more accountable but I can't really afford one.

Gym membership: $2,600

Activewear: $700. I probably buy new gear only four or five times a year.

Usually, twice a week, although it depends on the season. So during Summer for example, it can be three to four times.

What kind of exercise do you do?

Some form of Ballet Beautiful or Barre, targeting different areas. It may be cardio-based one week and legs or butt in another!

Personal trainer, got one?

No, I've never really felt the need for one, yet. I can be quite disciplined when I need to be so usually trust myself to put in the work, at least for the time being.

How much do you spend on exercise in a year?

Ballet/Barre: $200. I don't actually spend a whole lot – I do a lot of workouts at home, which helps! Every now and again I'll sign up to a ballet/Barre season class.

Activewear: $350. I try to buy a few good pieces that will last a while, so I find will do a shop/update once, maybe twice a year. My relatively low-impact exercise choices mean I get a lot of wear out of them!

Name: Daniella Brandy, 29

Fitness level: A few months ago I would have said super active but I've let myself go recently so somewhere between beginner and active enough.

How often do you exercise in a week?

Until recently, about five times a week, more if I could manage it. Now, I'd be lucky to make it maybe three times a week.

What kind of exercise do you do?

I'm a big fan of classes because sometimes I am a bit clueless and it helps to have someone telling me what to do, how long for, and how often. I like Body Pump, something weight based, yoga or Pilates (I am NO good at cardio. I usually feel like I'm going to vom if I do cardio) I usually just check which class is on and I'll do whatever is on at the time, or if there isn't a class I like I'll do a circuit on the weight machines.

Personal trainer, got one?

I think I've done maybe two personal training sessions this year but they are so expensive I only ever go to one or two sessions before I give up and go back to doing my own thing.

How much do you spend on exercise in a year?

Gym membership: $300

Personal trainer: $100

Extra classes (yoga, Pilates, Pilates reformer): $300

Supplements: $300. I use protein only, I find it's a good addition to a smoothie that I can take on the go. I am prepared to spend more for a really good one that doesn't have a bunch of bad fillers like carbs and sugars.

Activewear: $300. I don't tend to buy ridiculously expensive gear because the affordable stuff works just as well for me.

Massages: $240-$300. I don't get recovery massages specifically but relaxation and Thai, yes. I'd say I have about two to three within the year.

Total: $1,600 (approx.)
