The POPSUGAR Diaries: The Green Smoothie Challenge
In the spirit of talking all things nourishment this week, I decided it was high time I gave the green smoothie trend a whirl. I'd seen countless friends post photos of their tall green glasses on Instagram, and I'd read pages and pages on why juicing was taking over the world, but was I totally convinced? Kind of. To help with the task of embarking on a green smoothie challenge, I knew I had to get my hands on the mother of all blenders — the Vitamix. If you're not familiar with the Vitamix, here's the short version. This "super blender" has a blade that spins at up to 384 km per hour, which means you get the benefit from all the nutrients and fibres in food (skin, stems, seeds, that's why it's called a smoothie and not just juice) without sacrificing on taste. I've mainly used the Vitamix for blending fruit and vegetables, but it's also capable of making ice cream, cooking hot soup, grinding coffee and doing the work of up to ten kitchen appliances.
