How to Make Your Coffee Healthier

This Photo Show Exactly How Coffee Is Hindering Your Weight-Loss Goals

There are two types of people in this world: the ones who cannot function without coffee and the "others". All jokes aside, if you're trying to lose weight without eliminating coffee completely, you may want to start paying attention to what exactly is going into your daily dose of caffeine.

Fitness coach Marci Nevin shared that drinking your calories can be one of the overlooked reasons your weight-loss efforts are coming up short. While a cup of black coffee has around two calories, the caloric count can dramatically increase depending on what we add to our coffee.

Nevin shared some simple swaps you can implement to make your coffee healthier. The next time you order a coffee, swap out whole milk with a lower-fat option like skim milk, or skip the dairy altogether and try a milk alternative like coconut or almond milk.

Believe it or not, a seemingly harmless pump of sweetener can have around 20 calories of sugar — and we all know the baristas can be extra generous with the pumps. Save some calories by asking for a sugar-free version of your favourite sweetener. Another swap Nevin suggested when trying to lose weight is to hold off on the toppings. Toppings like whipped cream and sauces are one of the best parts of any specialty drink, but they can easily add an extra 50 to 100 calories to your drink.

At the end of the day, how you drink your coffee is up to you, and if these swaps seem too hard to make, simply opt for a smaller size to reduce calories altogether!
