What Happens to Fat Cells When You Lose Weight

The Fundamental Thing You Should Know About Fat Loss

With all the talk of "fat-burning", you wouldn't be far off in believing your can rid your body of whole fat cells through workout. While it might be more motivating to think of your stubborn fat cells disappearing in bursts of miniflames, what actually happens when you lose weight through fat loss is that your fat cells shrink through a process called lipolysis. Unless you undergo a surgical removal such as liposuction, your body maintains the same amount of cells, and they simply increase or decrease in size as you gain or lose weight.

If you had no clue regarding that fact about fat loss, you're not alone. According to a survey of 855 people by cosmetic company SculpSure UK, only 27 percent of respondents replied correctly, while the majority chose one of the wrong options, with "burned off and destroyed" being the most popular answer. Read on to take a closer look at the survey's telling results.
