I Tried Everlane's New Performance Tights and They're Good (Real Good)
Everlane are notorious for creating the wardrobe staples you need, and now they've forayed into the world of athleisure and performance with their first ever pair of leggings that are not only suitable for all workouts (can confirm!), but are perfect for lounging, brunching and yes, even wearing as pants — controversial, I know.
About the leggings
The label reads: "Made of premium performance fabric from a renowned Italian mill, the Perform Legging features an extra-high waist, minimal seams, an inside pocket, and lightweight compression with technical sweat-wicking properties. Plus, it's comprised of 58% recycled nylon and dyed at a Bluesign-certified facility—without the harmful chemicals."
So far it's ticking all the boxes I like in a good pair of workout tights: high-waisted, minimal seams, lightweight compression (read: breathable) and sweat-wicking properties. Also bonus points for being ethically made.
Time to put them to the test
I exercise four-to-five times a week and my routine consists mostly of boxing classes which includes boxing rounds, sprint sessions and strength training. On top of that, I also like to run and head to a yoga class. In order to really put these tights to the test, I wore them for both a boxing class and a run, and let me tell you, I was impressed!
When I initially pulled them on, I was a little concerned they wouldn't breath as well as my favourite tights (I'm all about breathable fabrics, especially in this Australian heat) because the fabric felt thicker than what I'm used to. However, I loved the way it shrink-wrapped to my body, giving me the illusion of smooth, lean legs.
Thirty minutes into my boxing class I was 1) sweating like a beast and 2) pleasantly surprised at how breathable the tights were. I didn't feel like I was overheating at all or that I'd sweated so much that the fabric was now one with my body.
Another one of my concerns was that they wouldn't stay up around my waist. I have an hourglass figure and my waist is exactly 20 cm smaller than my thighs, so given these tights didn't have a draw string, I was nervous I'd forever be pulling them up during my workout.
You can imagine my relief when I didn't have to pull them up once, not even a little bit. They held firm to my body without putting pressure on my stomach and hugged it in all the right places, even on the day I went for a run — which is huge!
As for the look and style of the Perform Leggings, their sleek aesthetic would make them the perfect addition to an off-duty athleasiure look. At the same time, I can also 100 percent see myself snuggled up on the couch in them, probably paired with ugg boots (dont @ me).
These might just actually be my new favourite tights, pending how they wear in a few months time (watch this space for an update!), they could even become my go-to's.
In the meantime, these babies retail for $85 (which is a very reasonable price point for good activewear), they range in sizing from XXS to XXL and come in four colour ways! Love that for us. You can shop them below.
