Since I've been following a whole-food, plant-based, nutritarian lifestyle, where you don't eat any added oil, I've been looking for healthy ways to flavour my salads without using basic dressings that contain oil. And, then this salad dressing hack from @moresaltplease on TikTok came into my life! If you love hummus or pickles, you're going to become an instant fan. All you do is mix your favourite hummus (this brand is oil-free) with a little pickle juice, and it makes a smooth, creamy dressing that's lower in calories and fat than dressings that contain oil. For comparison, two tablespoons of this hummus is 40 calories and has one gram of fat. Two tablespoons of a creamy tahini-based Goddess salad dressing would be 120 calories and 12 grams of fat — that's a huge difference! As a bonus, hummus also contains a couple grams of fibre and protein from the chickpeas, which makes your salad more satisfying. It's also a great way to use up leftover hummus or the juice from your pickle jar.
If you're not a fan of pickle juice, this hack could also work with balsamic or apple cider vinegar, or even water if you're not into that vinegary flavour. This just may become your new favourite, go-to salad dressing!
