POPSUGAR Australia: What does an average day on a plate look like for you?
Ellie: I aim for my five meals a day, sometimes six depending on how long my day has been. My program has my complete eating plan with two-three options for each meal. If I have a really early start on set, I go with the smoothie option on my plan. It's quick and I can take it with me on my way to work. It's full of protein, healthy fats, carbs and natural sugar from frozen fruit. Following that I'd have a snack, my lunch, another snack and then dinner followed by frozen fruit as a little sweet snack. I have a sweet tooth and I find this helps keep me satisfied. I like consistent meals during the day to keep focused and my energy levels up, otherwise I burn out.
PS: What drinks do you like to have throughout the day?
Ellie: Water, water, water!! Generally, I will have a pre-workout shake in the morning before my workout, then a protein shake post workout. But other than that, I will stick to water. Staying hydrated is really important for your body to function properly. I am not big on coffee or sugary drinks and when I do drink coffee, I drink it black. Hydration is the key to moving everything through your body.
PS: What's your motto when it comes to healthy eating?
Ellie: It's all about balance! We are driven by pleasure with everything we do in life. I found I had to make healthy eating a lifestyle, not something I did when I felt like I've needed to detox or diet (ahem, we've all been there, but don't stay there). On the flip side you also can't beat yourself up if you want to have something naughty every once in a while. It's all about finding a happy balance for yourself and not being too strict but also not over indulging. Once I started really taking care of my health, my body started to reflect it.
