You should be drinking two to three litres of water each day, given that your body is made up of 45 to 75 percent water, it plays a hugely important role in your heart health, physical performance and brain function.

Increasing the amount of water you drink can offer a whole host of health benefits, and while there isn’t an official amount of h2O that you should be consuming every day, here is what happens to your body when you drink three litres of water every single day.

It supports your overall health

Staying hydrated helps keep your body running smoothly and according to Healthline, is needed to complete a number of bodily processes. Water helps to regulate your body temperature, as well as transporting nutrients through your body, maintaining brain function and physical performance.

Not consuming enough water can cause side effects like headaches, dizziness and constipation as well as fatigue. If you’re feeling a little tired, try drinking some water to see if it lifts your energy levels. Drinking three litres of water can help all of these.

It can improve your skin health

Drinking water helps keep your skin smooth and supple, with a month-long study in 49 people finding that consuming two litres per day led to an improvement in skin hydration — especially in those who consumed over three litres every day. According to Healthline, another review of six studies also found increased water intake to reduce dryness and roughness while increasing skin elasticity.

It can aid weight loss

Water has been found to help aid in weight loss, with one study of 24 people found that drinking 500ml of water before eating breakfast reducing the number of calories that were consumed by 13 percent. As per Healthline, water consumption has also been shown to temporarily boost your metabolism, with one small study of 16 people who drank 500ml of water experiencing a metabolism boost by 24 percent over one hour.
