Frozen Whole Lime Margarita Recipe

The Secret to a Tasty Frozen Whole Lime Margarita? Using the Peel of the Lime

No matter your level of expertise in the kitchen, we all have that one thing we make sure to keep fully stocked. For some, it might be a bag of chip or a bottle of wine, but for me, it's the ingredients to make a margarita. And not just any margarita, but a frozen full lime margarita.

We're use to using limes solely for their juice or as a garnish, but what many might not realise is that a lot of the tangy lime flavour is in the peel! A full lime margarita utilises all parts of the lime, and the blending process isn't too different from a traditional margarita. All you have to do is squeeze the juice from your limes into a blender, then cut into quarters. Next, add those quartered limes along with tequila, salt, triple sec, sugar, and ice. Blend for a minute then serve in a salt-rimmed glass and you've got a yourself refreshing frozen cocktail that uses the whole lime — hence the name!

If you're in the mood for a lip-puckering boozy drink, you can never go wrong with a full lime margarita. Plus, it can easily be paired with your favourite happy hour snacks like chips and guacamole. Keep scrolling to see just how easy this recipe is.

Frozen Whole Lime Margarita Recipe

Ingredients

  1. Salt for rim
    2 limes
    4 oz. silver tequila
    1.5 oz. triple sec
    1/4 cup of sugar
    Pinch of salt
    Ice

Directions

  1. Cut one lime into wedges. Wet rim of glass with a lime wedge, and line with salt. Set remaining wedges aside for garnishing.
  2. In a blender, squeeze the juice of one full lime. Then cut lime into quarters and add into blender. Add other ingredients including tequila, triple sec, salt, sugar, and ice.
  3. Blend until incorporated, no more than 90 seconds. We don't want runny margaritas!
  4. Pour into a salt-rimmed glass and garnish with a lime wedge.
