Emerging details about Hogwarts Legacy continue to make us excited for a new game set in the Harry Potter universe. The latest news is that the game will take full advantage of the PS5 DualSense controller by using haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and the lights around the touchpad to help you physically feel magic around you.

A post on the PlayStation blog outlined the features, but it’s the one about the touchpad lights that caught our eye. According to the post, the light will change colour depending on your Hogwarts house, with scarlet and gold for Gryffindor, green and silver for Slytherin, blue and bronze for Ravenclaw and yellow and black for Hufflepuff.

That’s a nice touch, and a cute way for you to match your in-game character. While they’re walking around in their house robes, you’ll be repping the same colours on the controller.

It’s just one of the ways Avalanche is using the PS5’s next-gen features to make players feel like they’re inhabiting the Harry Potter world when they play. “A witch or wizard should never be without their wand, and the PlayStation 5’s DualSense wireless controller becomes an extension of your wand in Hogwarts Legacy.”

The adaptive triggers will let you feel the power of your spells, ranging from the light resistance of a basic spell to the heavier resistance required to charge up a more powerful charm. The post even says that spells will feel different thanks the vibrations from haptic feedback. “And when you deflect a spell with Protego, you’ll feel the sizzling of the magic being reflected and absorbed by the Shield Charm.”

You’ll even feel it in the controller when you crush potion ingredients in a mortar and pestle, hear a mandrake screech or fly your broomstick — although there’s still no word on whether you’ll be able to play Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy will release “Holiday 2022” on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch. Check out everything else we know about it here.
