Calling all Alliance and Horde members! The iconic Wrath of the Lich King expansion will finally be added to World of Warcraft Classic on September 27, Blizzard announced today.

What Is Wrath of the Lich King Classic?

It’s hard to overstate the impact Wrath of the Lich King had on WoW when it was first released in 2008. Alliance and Horde players marched through the wintry forests and snowy peaks of Northrend, which remains the single largest area ever added to the game in an expansion until the upcoming Dragonflight, and completed some of the game’s most beloved quests on their way to defeat Lich King Arthas Menethil, one of the most powerful villains in the game’s history.

Wrath of the Lich King Classic is an authentic recreation of the landmark expansion that will let new and returning players experience the best that World of Warcraft has to offer.

“The epic moments in Wrath of the Lich King Classic feature vast icy environments, unique dungeons and raids and a gripping conclusion to the story of Prince Arthas,” said World of Warcraft executive producer Holly Longdale. “All of this and more made it a favourite of many of our players and us at Blizzard as well. We’re looking forward to providing an authentic experience for returning veterans and an awesome adventure for newcomers exploring Azeroth for the first time.”

What’s New In Wrath of the Lich King Classic?

The expansion is also bringing back the Death Knight hero class, former champions of the Lich King who wield dark magic and runic power, and the Inscription profession, which allows players to create their own glyphs, scrolls, and enchantments. The original iteration of the World of Warcraft achievement system is also returning. All 13 dungeons and nine raids from the expansion are also returning as end-game content.

What Is Wrath of the Lich King Classic Release Date?

Wrath of the Lich King will be released on September 27 at 8am AEST. The expansion will be free for everyone with an active World of Warcraft subscription.

In the lead-up to the Wrath of the Lich King Classic release date, World of Warcraft Classic players can prepare by turning on the Joyous Journeys XP event to double the amount of XP earned by playing.
