I recently went on a girls trip to Pearl Beach on the NSW Central Coast, and we stayed in the most incredible '60s-style Stayz home. The asymmetrical roof and sunken lounge room — features that were at the height of fashion in that era — were amazing, but the real charm of the home came through the incredible decor. Danish-style timber furniture, ornate glass and ceramic jars, touches of velvet, gold and brass detailing . . . it was great. It's also totally in vogue again.
It's easy to think "retro styling" means buying every lairy print and primary-coloured objet and throwing it into a room together. But '60s style can be very chic. It also makes a house interesting and very homey. Winter is the perfect time to dip into the trend — when everything is dark and gloomy outside, it's nice to have something fun and bright inside.
