Update: Nine producer Julian Cress confirmed the network has bought Melbourne's Gatwick Hotel. He gave an interview where he said production on the hotel would not begin until every Gatwick resident had found new accommodation, adding that The Block would donate to and support homelessness charities.
This year's season of The Block is currently underway in Elsternwick, so it is assumed that the Gatwick might be the location for 2018, though that was not confirmed.
Original story: We miss The Block. We know it's only been a few months, but we started missing it as soon as Karlie and Will were announced the winners of last season. But the first batch of rumours for the 2017 season have already started. While it is not confirmed and Nine Network have declined to comment, it is thought they have bought St Kilda's infamous Gatwick Hotel for the hit renovating show.
Nine have placed a caveat on the building. A caveat is an agreement with the owners and it confirms the network has a legal interest in the property, and a strong indication that they have bought the building.
The Gatwick Hotel has long provided shelter for the homeless, but it has a history of violence and drug abuse and the rumoured sale follows an announcement earlier this month that the boarding house is set to close. Gatwick was first put up for sale in Dec. 2015, and it was thought that the government might acquire the building however that idea was quashed in Feb. 2016. It was on the market for $11 - $15 million.
Scroll for a look at the Gatwick and stay tuned for confirmation.
