The Fancy Suburb
On the ABC's 7.30 program, the PM said, "Lucy and I will continue to live . . . in our house in Sydney which is agreeably close to our grandson, but Kirribilli House, as you know, has been used by prime ministers." But Kirribilli won't be completely neglected. "We will obviously use that for official entertaining," he said. "We'll certainly be doing that but sleeping at home."
Kirribilli House is the preferred Sydney residence of previous Australian Prime Ministers, in particular John Howard spent most of his 11-year term living there. When in Canberra, despite having a very nice penthouse there, Malcolm will be staying at The Lodge (once it's refurbished of course) — Tony Abbott was unable to move there because of extensive renovations which are now almost finished.
Looking at Malcolm's Sydney home (the value of which is estimated at $50 million) we're not surprised he wanted to stay. Kirribilli House is nothing to be sniffed at, but the Point Piper house is in a different league of housing.
