Ikea Svartan Cushion Cover, $20
September 2016 marks a death in home decor: The monochrome-minimalist-straight lines style that's been so hot for the last five years, is finally dead. #SorryNotSorry. In it's wake, a more blurred-lines style of black and white, best seen in Ikea's new collection Svärtan, is the hottest new trend.
Svärtan is an Ikea collaboration between 25 design students from National Institute of Fashion and Technology in New Dehli, India and Swedish fashion and textile designer Martin Bergstrom. The collection is a very modern take on Indian design — usually perceived as colourful, bright and shiny — which focuses on textiles and grey-scale patterns. It's truly gorgeous, and the free-hand, slightly more bohemian, style is popping up elsewhere too.
H&M's Consciousness Collection has moved into homewares, Art Club Concept are experimenting with brush-stroke cushions and West Elm's modern art deco style is more earthy this season.
It's a look that has legs — and worthy of investment — so scroll for our top buys that will help you pull it off.
