The 2021 Women’s Prize For Fiction Shortlist Is Here, and Where’s ‘Detransition Baby’?

Winter is coming — not Game of Thrones style, an actual fact — which means along with it being Leo and Cancer season (with some guest appearances from Geminis and Virgos), it’s bookworm season.

Is there anything better than snuggling down into your doona — or Oodie, we don’t judge — with a warm cup of tea (hot chocolate) and getting lost in an entirely different world? When it comes to winter fashion or a library like the one in Beauty and the Beast — we choose the latter.

POPSUGAR loves a good read — check out some amazing books we’ve devoured — which is why we’re thrilled about the shortlist for the 2021 Women’s Prize for Fiction. Take a peek at the list below (and yes, we’ve included places you can get your hands on them).

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

No One Is Talking About This by Patricia Lockwood

One exciting thing about the above list of books is the fact they’re all first time nominees, and two of the entries are actually debuts (Cherie Jones and Patricia Lockwood).

There’s definitely one exception that 100% should’ve made the list — Torrey Peters Detransition, Baby. Peters was the first trans woman to be nominated for the prize and it’s a phenomenal read.

Time to get reading — the winner of the prize will be announced Wednesday 7th July.
