I Tried Trader Joe's New Coffee Peanut-Butter Beer, and Fair Warning: It's Nutty!

Whenever I spot a new product on the shelves of Trader Joe’s, I’m tempted to buy it. From pumpkin body butter to yoga skeleton air plants, I can’t help but be intrigued by the fun, sometimes straight-up wacky goods TJ’s comes up with.

So when I spotted Trader Joe’s new fall dessert beers at my local store, I had to try them. First up: Campanology Coffee Peanut-Butter Cup Porter. My favorite caffeinated beverage plus peanut butter plus alcohol? How could that not be delicious.

If you’re curious about this creative new brew at TJ’s, keep reading for my review!

Trader Joe's Coffee Peanut-Butter Cup Porter

Here’s the Campanology Coffee Peanut-Butter Cup Porter on display at my local Trader Joe’s. It’s only $3.99, which isn’t bad considering it’s 22 fluid ounces. The label describes it as a “porter with peanut butter powder, coffee, and lactose.” With nine percent alcohol by volume, it packs a punch.

Trader Joe's Coffee Peanut-Butter Cup Porter Review

It looks like your run-of-the-mill dark beer, but looks can be deceiving! Inhaling my glass, it took me a while to pinpoint the scent. My first impression is a strong coffee and nut scent, not necessarily peanut butter, though. The best way I can describe it is it smells like hazelnut-flavored coffee.

After taking a sip, I was happy to find that it’s a nice, smooth dark beer with a caramel-y coffee-nut flavor. The rich porter pairs well with the flavor combination, and it isn’t overly sweet. Paired with chocolate, over ice cream, or on its own, I’d recommend Trader Joe’s Coffee Peanut-Butter Cup Porter for anyone looking for a boozy dessert alternative this fall.
