How to Make the Energy of the Full Moon Work for You

Full moon energy is intense, there’s no doubt about it. How often do you think things feel a little out of control to only realise that there’s a full moon on the way? Probably more times than you can count. It’s not just you who feels the effect of the moon either, with a study from 2017 finding nearly 81 percent of mental health professionals believe that the moon has the power to make people ill.

Records show that physicians and philosophers from as far back as 400 B.C also blamed behavioural changes on the moon. It’s a thing. Thankfully, the full moon only occurs roughly once every month, so the energy, while intense, is fairly fleeting. But, there is a way to make this full moon power work for you when it is lingering. Here’s what to do:

Charge your crystals

Use this time to cleanse your crystals. While you can charge crystals with water or sage, the full moon is really the perfect opportunity to do this as it comes around frequently enough to remind you to do so. Cleansing healing crystals with the full moon releases any energy that might be lingering so pop those babies out in the moonlight to reset them for further healing uses.

Cleanse your space

While a new moon is the best time to set intentions for fresh starts and beginnings, the full moon often marks “turning points, manifestations or closure,” says The AstroTwins. “It’s best to initiate a project or plant those seeds at a new moon, and ‘harvest’ or make decisions at the full moon.” As such, this is a great time to do some cleansing and close any chapters that need closing.

In fact, much like you cleanse crystals of energy during the full moon, you can also do the same for the space around you and even yourself to remove the built-up energy. Horoscope.com recommends using sage, cedar or lavender to smudge your home and clear away any old or stale energy. You could also take a salt bath to release any negativity that might be lingering.

Try your hand at meditation

If you haven’t tried meditation before, consider giving it a go around the full moon. The energy at this point “gives us access to have some really inspiring moments of self-reflection,” says Horoscope.com. The moon allows you to connect with unconscious parts of yourself, so by giving meditation a go, you might be able to tap into a few new parts of yourself.
