Chris Dawson Pleads Not Guilty to Wife Lynette's Murder

In a highly eventful day, former school teacher and subject of The Teacher's Pet podcast Chris Dawson has pleaded not guilty to wife Lynette's alleged murder and also been charged with 'carnal knowledge' of an underage student.

This morning, as reported by ABC News, Dawson attended Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney in order to formally plead not guilty to the murder of Lynette Dawson, who disappeared in 1982. Dawson has always vehemently denied any involvement in the matter, but was arrested and charged with murder in December last year. The arrest came after The Australian's podcast The Teacher's Pet saw exponential global success which led to mounting public pressure to resolve the case.

Shortly after he left court, Dawson then attended Surry Hills Police station, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. There, he was arrested and charged with carnal knowledge by a teacher of a girl between the ages of 10 and 17, in relation to charges said to be regarding a 16-year-old student.

ABC News reported that Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec said the charge related back to a situation that allegedly occurred in the 1980s.

Both matters are expected back before the same court on August eight, with Kerlatec saying, according to the The Sydney Morning Herald, that Dawson has been given "strict conditional bail" until then.
