After plenty of debate in parliament about the same-sex marriage plebiscite, the High Court has today ruled that the postal survey will officially be going ahead.
From September 12, all Australians on the electoral roll will receive survey forms in the mail and have until 6 p.m. on October 27 to return the completed form (surveys received after 6 p.m. November 7 will not be accepted). Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is in full support of the High Court's decision, telling federal parliament, "That is as it should be. We encourage every Australian to vote in this survey, to have their say, and as I have said in this House and in many other places, Lucy and I will be voting yes and I will be encouraging others to vote yes."
A result is expected to be declared at 11.30 a.m. on November 15.
