People Are Sharing the Most Beautiful Tributes for Connie Johnson
Connie Johnson, sister of actor Samuel Johnson, passed away on Friday night after a long battle with cancer. Her brother shared the sad news via the Love Your Sister Facebook page, and since then, thousands of Australians have been sharing their tributes, both on social media and a special website set up in commemoration.
Though many did not know Connie personally, the mother of two's work in raising awareness of breast cancer was admired and respected around Australia. Tributes on the website ranged from condolences and messages of thanks, to personal stories of how Connie's story touched hearts. Notable figures, such as Rebecca Gibney, have also shared their own tributes.
"Farewell Connie. Your story is a beautiful one," one tribute by Claire reads. "You were brave and determined to make a difference. And you did. And to you Samuel – what a champion you are. Thank you both."
Kasey wrote: "Thank you for all that you have done for this generation and future generations of women to come. You will be missed by not only your family and friends but Australia and a lot of people the world over."
Thank you for making a difference. Your strength and courage was truly amazing," Lynne wrote. "You provided wind under the wings of others fighting cancer. Your legacy will continue to do good works and provide hope."
On Thursday — the day before Connie passed — she was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia. The award is one of the nation's top accolades and honours those for notable services or achievements.
